In our walk with God, it’s easy to fall into the trap of believing the wrong things about His word, especially when life gets tough. But God’s word is meant to perfect us, guide us, and show us the way to live a righteous life. I learned this lesson the hard way after being evicted in 2019 and realizing my life wasn’t truly rooted in God’s Word. I was busy teaching what I didn’t fully understand and chasing after quick blessings, only to discover that it’s His word that truly holds the key to transformation.

Here are 3 simple steps to avoid deception and allow God’s truth to guide your life:

  1. Read the Word and Make Sure You Understand It
There’s nothing worse than standing on a lie when times get tough. God’s word is full of wisdom and truth, but it’s essential to take time to understand it. Don’t just read it – dig deep, study it, and ask God for clarity. This foundation will keep you steady in storms.
  2. Seek to Be Filled with God’s Spirit and Pray for Understanding
We don’t always know how to pray, but Romans 8:26-27 reminds us that the Holy Spirit intercedes for us. When you pray, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the truth of God’s Word and give you understanding. He’s here to lead us into all truth, guiding our hearts and minds in ways we can’t always do on our own.
  3. Thank God Daily for What He’s Done
Make thanksgiving a daily habit. Take time to write down 4-8 things God has done for you every day. It’ll help you see how much He has already blessed you and prevent you from feeling like something is always missing. Gratitude shifts your focus from what you think you need to what you already have in Christ, and it reminds you that God is good and generous.

When we make God’s Word a priority, and as our minds are renewed, transformation happens. His Word is powerful and perfecting, leading us into the life He has planned for us. Stay rooted, stay thankful, and stay guided by His truth!
