We live in a world that rewards hustle, glorifies busyness, and often measures our worth by how much we produce. Our calendars are packed, our phones constantly pinging, and our minds pulled in a hundred different directions. In the midst of all this noise, it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters.
Creating space isn’t just about decluttering your closet or organizing your schedule—it’s about making intentional choices that align with your values, your faith, and your purpose. It’s about removing distractions and obligations that drain you and making room for the things that give life: rest, relationships, faith, joy, and purpose.
“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” — Psalm 90:12 (NIV)
The Power of Saying “No”
One of the most powerful things you can do is learn to say no. Not every opportunity is meant for you. Not every request deserves a yes. When you say no to things that don’t align with your calling or bring peace, you’re actually saying yes to what does.
“Everything is permissible,” but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible,” but not everything is edifying. — 1 Corinthians 10:23 (CSB)
Running on Empty
We weren’t created to run on empty. Even Jesus took time away from the crowds to pray, rest, and reconnect with the Father. When we create healthy boundaries in our lives, we invite clarity, creativity, and spiritual renewal. We give ourselves space to hear from God and respond in obedience instead of reacting in overwhelm.
“But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” — Luke 5:16 (NIV)
“Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28 (NIV)
Reevaluating Priorities
Sometimes we need to pause and ask ourselves: What truly matters right now? Is it being present with your family? Deepening your relationship with God? Taking care of your mental and emotional health? Investing in something that brings lasting fruit?
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.” — Matthew 6:33 (CSB)
When we make space for what actually matters, we stop living on autopilot and start living with intention.
My Journey to Making Space
I had to come to terms with the fact that chasing the next business opportunity—the one promising to bring in $10,000 a month and beyond—was not the way. I was pursuing income and influence, but not necessarily purpose.
That led me to a hard but freeing question: What does it actually mean to pursue the kingdom of God?
For me, it meant helping bring God’s family back to Him—making time to help others know Him, grow in relationship, and walk in healthy community through His Word. That’s what matters to God, so that’s what I began to pursue. I let go of the pressure to chase money and success and leaned into purpose and peace. It’s been one of the most freeing and fulfilling shifts of my life.
A Simple Invitation
Take a moment today to ask yourself: What am I carrying that I need to set down? What am I chasing that’s actually chasing me away from what matters most?
“Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” — Hebrews 12:1b (NIV)
Creating space isn’t always easy, but it is always worth it. You were never meant to do everything—but you were meant to do what matters.
